The 2004 movie National Lampoon’s Gold Diggers aimed to reach a degree of fame and gross sales with its storyline. It starred Will Friedle and Chris Owen, whose roles aimed to marry two women sisters and get a life insurance policy after their demise. The elderly sisters were played by Louise Lasser and Renée Taylor. However, the Gary Preisler-directed film, which was described as dull and toothless, was not able to receive their expected number of gross sales. It only earned $400,000 on its release date.

Despite its comedy, the movie met dismal failure, with critics saying the film has nothing thoughtful or interesting to tell or contribute. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has no positive reviews, with overwhelming negative feedback on its story. Due to its lack of favorable reviews, the film earned a spot in the list of Worst Movies of the Decade from 2000-2009.
