5. Pinocchio (2002)

Starring: Roberto Benigni and Nicoletta Braschi

Directed by: Roberto Benigni

Many kids will be familiar with the story of Pinocchio in the hit 1883 children’s book The Adventures of Pinocchio. However, when it was released on the big screen in 2002, the story was included in the worst movies of all time. Pinocchio’s story was reflected in the show, starting with him as a puppet who became a real boy with the help of the Blue Fairy. Directed and starred by Academy Award winner Roberto Benigni, the movie was called by Rotten Tomatoes as a flop and “creepy vanity project.”

The fantasy comedy-drama film was also described as unfunny and poorly made. It was even pitted against Walt Disney’s adaptation of its animated Pinocchio which was more imaginative and fun. Despite the negative reviews, the movie earned $40 million in the box office, leaving producers with ample amount to get their investment money. It has also received several recognitions such as David di Donatello for Best Production Design and David Di Donatello for Best Costume Design.
