3. A Thousand Words (2012)

Starring: Eddie Murphy, Kerry Washington, Cliff Curtis, Clark Duke

Directed by: Brian Robbins

Eddie Murphy has a whole lot of successful comedy movies to boot. As one of the best and highest-paid comedians of his time, it is usually a common notion that all of his movies will be a great investment for producers.

However, it was not the same case as with A Thousand Words, a 2012 movie directed by Brian Robbins. The movie follows the story of a dishonest agent who got the curse of being killed if he utters over 1,000 words. As he goes on with his life and misadventures, he tries to break from the curse. Cutting back Eddie Murphy’s words was probably one of the biggest factors why the movie gained unfavorable reviews, as his voice was one of his greatest assets as a comical man. From the budget of $40 million, the movie only received $22 million in box-office sales, which makes it a flop.
